Back in the day Pineapple Donuts were a very special sweet treat at Australian school canteens.

Pineapple doughnuts are for people with a sophisticated palette, you would tell yourself as you devoured one usually after consuming a pizza rounda and washing it all down with a Chocolate Moove flavoured Milk.

Our enquiries prompted a flurry of responses from individuals who recalled the "wonderful delicacy” and how modern doughnuts pale in comparison.

People explained that they were occasionally available in certain bakeries and the cake aisle of Woolworths, but the general view was that they were "not the same."

One customer stated, "You can sometimes find them at Caltex Star Servo’s but you must act quickly because they disappear fast."

"They are unquestionably not the same," remarked another customer… "I purchased pineapple doughnuts from the school tuck shop when I was 15 years old back in the 70’s
